Hortense and Violette  part.5 - skirt -

オルタンスとヴィオレット制作過程も今回でラストとなりました。

This is the last part of the process of making Hortense and Violette costumes.

今回はスカート編！

This time it is about skirt!

スカートはヘッドドレスと同じくらい作るのが大変でした。
というのは、なにぶん初心者なもんで
どうすれば綺麗なひらひら感のあるスカートになるかが分からず
何度も縫ったりほどいたりを繰り返したからなんです。

Making them was the same difficulty as making head dresses.

I was a beginner of sewing,

so I sewed and undid many times until I was satisfied with making beautiful wave.

実はこの衣装、
昨年の冬コミ（初参戦になるはずだった）に着ていこうと、昨年１１月末から作り始めたんですが、
納得のいく仕上がりにならず何度も縫い直した結果
今年の４月の完成になりまして。
趣味だから良いですが、もし仕事だったら大変です (;´▽｀A``

To tell the truth,

I started making them last November 

in order to go to the big event ”comic market” held in new year’s eve wearing this costume.

But I completed it this April after many trials and errors. 

It’s OK for a hobby, but if it was the business…it would be horrible. (; '▽ `A``

明度に差があるのは、

The reason for the brightness difference is...

ぺろっとめくると中はこうなっている

inside of the colored organdy

元にしているスカートの色が違うからです。
本当は両方とも黒が良かったんですが、白黒一つずつしか手に入らず・・・
どちらにどちらを使うかと言えば、
やっぱり青＝生に白が合うんじゃないかなあと考えてこうなりました。

originally I wanted two black skirts as the bases, but I got white and black ones instead.

I use white skirt as a base for the blue organdy

to fit the image of the blue costume implying “live”, and the purple one implying “death”.

【材料】

・オーガンジー各色　150×300cm　あれば十分、というか余ってしまいました。
・パニエっぽい感じのスカート　2着
・黒のレース（ヘッドドレスで使った物と同じ）

[Material] 

・blue and purple organdy  150 × 300cm (it’s more than enough)

・skirt like pannier  as a base  X2

・black lace ribbon (the same one used in the head dress)

3段スカートなのでそれぞれの長さに切り、長さが3メートルの輪っかを作ります。
丈はそれぞれお好みで。

Because it is a three-layer frill skirt, you cut organdy in each of length.

 Make the rings which circumferences are 3m. 

You can freely chose the length.

パニエっぽいスカート。
これだけで履くものなのでパニエとは異なりますが、
最近こういうのよく売ってますよね。

Skirt like pannier. 

This isn’t pannier because it’s worn as a outer and has less volume than pannier.

Recently you can buy one like this in ordinary Japanese clothes shop.

オーガンジーの切り方、縫い方ですが、

I’ll write about how to cut and sew the organdy.

切りたいところで生地を折って、爪できゅっきゅっとやると
簡単に跡がつきます。
そこに手芸用ボンドを塗っていきます。
下には要らない紙を敷いて、ボンドが乾く前に紙から外してください。

Fold the organdy along the line you want to cut, and press it with nails.

You can make the mark easily. 

Then put the fabric glue on it.

Lay a sheet of paper under the organdy, and remove it before the glue dries.

塗った直後。
木工用ボンドは白く固まったりする事もあるので不安でしたが、

Immediately after putting the glue. 

I worried that it may remain white.

乾いたら透明になってくれてほっとしました。
なるべく薄く塗りましょう。

I was relieved that it became transparent when it dried. 

You should put the glue as thin as possible.

ボンドを塗るとほつれませんし、
裁断しやすくもなります。

Putting the glue makes it easy to cut 

and it does not fray. 

縫い方ですが、
オーガンジーって薄いから難しいんですね。普通に縫うとこんな風に

It’s difficult to sew organdy because it’s thin and delicate.

If you sew it as usual,

生地が縮れてしまいます。

the fabric would twist like on the picture above.

なのでやむなく下に紙を敷いて一緒に縫いました。

 So I reluctantly sewed the fabric and a sheet of paper together.

なるほど、これぞミシン目。
ミシン目にそって破けば紙は簡単に外れます。

You can remove the paper easily if you tear it along the line.

するとどうでしょう、
今度は縮れていないではありませんか！

Voila!

It doesn’t twist Now!

ただ、いくら紙がはずしやすいと言っても
いつも紙と一緒に縫うのは億劫になってきます。

However, 

it is troublesome to sew it always with the paper even if it is easy to remove it.

で、いろいろ試した結果、

Then I found it.

このように３つ折りにして縫えば

If you sew it like this way making 3-fold,

ある程度厚みがあるからでしょう、
極端に縮れる事なく縫う事が出来ました。

it will not twist excessively.

Probably it’s because organdy becomes thicker by being folded three times. 

なぜ最初からこうしなかったのか悔やまれてなりません（笑）

I regretted I hadn’t sew like this from the beginning.

で、スカートの作り方ですが、
さっきお見せしたパニエっぽいスカートの上に
3枚ひらひら付けていく訳ですが。

So I’ll talk about the skirt.

Put three frilled organdy rings on the base skirt like a pannier.

このひらひらの付け方が迷いました。
全部フリルにしたらボリュームが出過ぎるんじゃないか、とか
手縫いで作る間隔の空いたフリルなら丁度よくなるかも、とか
一番長い段だけボックスにしたらどうか、とか。

Considering how to put the frilled organdy bothered me a lot.

If I make the frill three organdy by sewing machine, it would be voluminous extremely…

If I make the frill by hand-sewing, it would be proper volume…

How would it be if I make the box only for the longest layer…



で、最終的に取った方法は
3段ともミシンの上糸と下糸の調節で作るフリルにし、
パニエ風のスカートのウエストに直接縫い
黒のレースをその上から縫い付けて、
縫い目を目立たなくするという、一番シンプルな方法でした。

Finally, I chose the simplest way

by making frills of 3 peaces using sewing machine,

sewing them directly to the base skirt and hiding the seam.

もとのスカートの上に

On the base skirt

いちだーん

put the first layer

にだーん

second layer

さんだーんとフリルを重ねます。

third layer

このままだと縫い目が残念な感じなので

now the seam is still visible

上からレースを縫ってごまかします。

sew the lace ribbon to make the seam invisible.

そうそう、もとにしたスカートは
ウエストがゴムの部分と伸びない布の部分とに分かれていたので、
ゴムの部分のフリルを縫うときは、ゴムを全力で引っ張りながら縫いました。

The waist of base skirt was devided into the elastic part and the cloth part. 

When I sewed layers to the elastic part, I pulled the part with all my strength.

1段目はざっくり

put marking pins sparsely to the first layer

3段目は細かく待ち針を打ちました

and put it densely to the third layer

履くとこんなかんじ。

If you wear it, it looks like this.

ついでに失敗例もお見せします。

Incidentally I will show you failures.

失敗1　長いのだけボックスにして、上2段は手縫いのフリル。
完璧に上2段と下1段がわかれてしまっている。

Failure case 1.

I made box only for the first layer, and made frills for the second and third layer by hand-sewing.

Completely 1st layer and 2nd/3rd layers are divided perfectly.

失敗2　スカートに縫う前に3段とも縫い合わせておき、いっぺんにフリルをかけてスカートに縫い付ける。
どばっとした感じ。

Failure case 2.

Before making frills, I sewed three layers together,

and I made frill at one time. 

It’s too voluminous.

結局ああだこうだと考えずに
3段とも純粋にフリルを付けるのが一番でした。

Simplest way was the best way.

All my considering was in vain.

Hortense and Violette  part.4 - blouse -

そうそう、衣装の構造のご説明が遅れましたが、
こんな感じになっております。

I forgot to explain the structure of costume.

Look at the illustration below.

一番下にブラウスを着て、
その上に襟ぐりの広いレース素材の黒い長袖、
で、一番上にジャケットとスカートという構成です。

Firstly I put on a blouse, 

followed by the black lace long-sleeved top,

and jacket on the top. 

今回はブラウスと、襟ぐりの広い長袖の制作過程についてです。

This time I will write about the blouse and long-sleeved top. 

例によって例の如く
使えそうなものをABABさんで調達し、アレンジしています。

As usual,

I bought usable clothes in ABAB store, and arranged them.

こんなブラウスがありましたので
首元にお花ボタンをつけてそのまま使う事にしました。

I found these blouses, 

so I decided to use as it is only putting the flower button on the neck.

ボタンを首もとのリボンに通します。

Put the button through the neck ribbon.

裏を見るとこんな感じ。

Back side is like this.

ボタンが蝶結びの真ん中に来るように結びます。

Tie the ribbon to make the button come in the middle. 

その上に着る襟ぐりの広い長袖ですが、
ユニクロのヒートテックでも良いかな〜と思いつつ、
もうちょっと粘って探していたら1000円でレースのタートルネックを発見。

Next photo is about the black lace long-sleeved top,

I wondered how about using HEATTECH of UNIQLO,

but I found a lace turtleneck top for $10 after persistent search.

待ち針の代わりに安全ピンでとめて

put safety pins instead of marking pins because it makes handling of the fabric much easier.

グリッと切って縫う

cut along the line and sew it

襟ぐりにレースを付ければ完成

and complete it by sewing the lace ribbon to the neckline

襟ぐりをかなり広めにしたのは、
ジャケットを着た時に
上からブラウスのみ、下から黒地のレースのみが見えるようにする為です。

The reason why I cut out the turtleneck line wider is, 

to make only the top of the blouse visible on top part of the costume,

and make only the black lace top visible on the bottom part of the costume,

when you wear the jacket.


ジャケットを着ないとこんな感じ。

Without the jacket, it looks like this.

あっ！カツラがない！！

Ah! I forgot to wear the wig!

で、ジャケットを着るとこうなります。

And with the jacket, it looks like this.

Hortense and Violette  part.3 - jacket -

本日はジャケット制作の過程をお伝えします。

Today I will tell you the process of making jackets .

床に置くとずいぶん不格好に見えますね（´ヘ｀；）

着るとちゃんとなります。

They look quite shapeless when they are put on the floor（´ヘ｀；）

But they will be great when you put them on.

オルタンスとヴィオレットの服は、

元々がイラストなので構造が分かりにくいのですが、

諸先輩方のコスプレのお写真を拝見しながら考えた結果

腕部分のオーガンジーをジャケットに直接つける事にしました。

The structure of Hortense and Violette costumes is difficult to understand because they originally came from an illustration.

After going through many photos of other cosplayers,

I decided to attach the arm organdy directly to the jacket.

では作業過程をご説明します。

Now I will explain the work process.

【材料】

・オーガンジー各色

・ベロア各色

・丸いボタン各色

・ベロア黒の切れ端（ヘッドドレス用の残りで可）

・ボレロ２着

[Material]

· Organdy blue and purple color

· Velour blue and purple color

· Round buttons blue and purple color

· Velour black remainings (the rest of the head dresses)

· 2 Boleros

ん・・・ボレロ２着？

と思われた方、はい！

 ... 2 boleros?

Yes!

100％まるまる全部作る気がなかったので、

土台として使えそうなものはないかとABABさんを彷徨っていたら

フォーマルドレスのコーナーに如何にも使えそうなボレロを発見！

Since I didn’t intend to make bolero from scratch,

I wandered around ABAB store to seek for something suitable.

There, I found a really usable boleros in the formal dress section!

これなら自分で作るより確実に早い！安い！うまい！ヽ(´▽｀)ノ

ということで、こちらをもとにジャケットを作る事にしました。

By using them, the process will be Faster, Cheaper and More beautiful than I made them myself!ヽ(´▽｀)ノ

So I decided to make jackets using this bolero.

このボレロの襟、裾、袖の部分に
各色のベロアをフリルにして付けました。

I put the frills of the velour of each color to the collar, hem and sleeve of this bolero.

ではまず襟から。

At first I’ll start explaining with the collar.

１、ベロア各色をフリルにしてベロア黒の切れ端に縫い付ける

1, make the frills of colored velour and sew them to the piece of black velour.

ミシンの上糸と下糸の調節で作るフリルだと細かすぎて綺麗にならなかったので
手縫いでフリルにしたものをミシンでベロア黒の切れ端に縫い付けました。

When you make the ruffles using sewing machine, they will not be beautiful and the gather will be too close.

So first you should make the frills by hand-sewing, and sew them to the piece of black velour by sewing machine.

縫い付けたら、手縫いの糸を外してベロア黒の余分な部分は切り落とします。

After putting them together, remove the thread of hand-sewing basting and cut off the extra piece of black velour.

２、襟にミシンで縫い付ける

2,  sew the frill to the collar with a sewing machine.

既存の襟の縫い目に重ねて縫います

sew it to overlap the seams of the black collar

きわきわを縫わないといけないので待ち針を多めに

put a lot of marking pins to sew at the edge.

気をつけて縫うとこのように

if you sew carefully, the seem becomes like this

元からあった襟のように見えます

It looks like an original collar and not as added one.

縮れている箇所を黒い襟と縫い合わせてバランスを整えます
arrange it carefully and fix it to the black collar.

裾もほとんど襟と同じです。

Process of making hem frill is almost same with one of the collar.

こちらはミシンで作ったフリルを使用。
ベロア黒の切れ端にミシンで縫い付け、
更にそれをボレロの裾に手縫いで目立たないように縫っていく。

Here I used the ruffles made with sewing machine. 

First sew the frill to the piece of black velour by sewing machine, 

and sew to the hem of the bolero by hand-sewing not to stand out.

袖は若干違いまして。

Sleeves are slightly different. 

１、色ベロアをフリルにせずにそのまま縫い付けます。

1, sew the colored velour without making ruffle.

後でゴムを入れる隙間を作る為に、
袖のベロアが色ベロアを挟み込むように縫います。

In order to make a space to put in the elastic band later, 

put them together to sandwich the color velour.

２、オーガンジーの裁断部に手芸用ボンドを塗って乾かす

2, put the fabric glue to the cut line of the organdy and dry it.

白く見える部分がボンドを塗った部分。
こうする事で裁断した時にほつれません。
ちょっと裾広がりにするのがポイント。

White line is where I put the fabric glue. 

When done so, it does not fray when you cut along the line. 

The point is making the hem slightly wider.

３、乾いたら裁断

3, when it dried completely, cut it along the line.

４、ミシンで筒状に縫う

4, sew it into cylindrical shape using sewing machine

オーガンジーは生地が薄いのでミシンで縫うと布がよれる事がありますが、
その場合は下に紙を敷いて一緒に縫うと割に縫いやすくなります。
（手間はかかりますが・・・）

Organza may twist when you sew it with a sawing machine, because the fabric is thin and delicate.

And in that case it becomes easier to sew if you sew it by putting a sheet of paper in between. 

(but it took a lot of time and effort...)

５、ボレロを裏返して袖の裏地に縫いつける

5, turn the bolero inside out, and sew organdy sleeve to the hem of the bolero sleeve.

引っ張ったらビリッと行きそうですが気にしない！

You shouldn't keep it in mind that it may tear if it is pulled too strong!

６、ボレロをおもてに返して、１で作った袖の隙間にゴムを入れる

6, turn the bolero inside out, put a elastic band in the space of sleeves made by step1

最後に飾りの丸いボタンをボレロの正面に６つ付けて

Last, attach six round buttons to the front of the bolero for the decoration.

正面でとめるフックを取り付けると完成です。

Attach the hook and loop fastener in order to keep the bolero fastened.

This is finish!

肘を曲げると若干しわになります。
オーガンジーだからしょうがないのかな？

Moving your arms slightly wrinkles the sleeves. 

But that is inevitable for the organdy.
